Welcome to another Good e-Reader Video! Today we take a look at one of the main features that came with the Apple iOS 5 update issued yesterday. We give you a full review of the Apple Newsstand, the new way to deliver magazines, newspapers.

Apple Newsstand is a new application on the main Apple homescreen on both the first and second generation Apple iPad. We checked it out today and were rather surprised at one of the features no one has really talked about. Most existing magazines and newspapers are standalone apps you download and all of their content is delivered within. Normally you take out a subscription and then deal with Apple for the payment. Newsstand does a good job at uncluttering your various screens with individual apps and condenses it within the main Newsstand.

When you subscribe to newspapers or magazines new issues you subscribe to will automatically be downloaded in the background while you do other things. This will insure when you want to read the latest issue you do not have to manually download anything, it will all occur automatically.

You can shop for new content within the application itself and will also have a dedicated section in the App Store. You will be able to search by categories, top selling and other features that should present viable options to you, even if you are just randomly looking around.

Right now the main selection of content, at least in Canada is rather spartan. There is only around 100 magazines and newspapers you can subscribe too. Noticeably lacking is any major Canadian publications and instead there is the New York Times, Daily, and so on.

kindle ebook

Welcome to another Good e-Reader Video Tutorial! Today we show you how to load ebooks on your new $79 Kindle 4. We demonstrate how to use Calibre and Windows Explorer to facilitate the copying process.

Calibre is a free open source ebook management program and is very solid for editing your books before you copy them over. It is also good for converting ebooks from one format to another. We show you the entire process of copying a book using this program to your Kindle. Also, along the way we show you how to use the program effectively.

Next we show you how to use Windows Explorer to simply copy and paste books to your device. They have to go into the documents directly and the books need to be PDF or MOBI.

We also made another Video Tutorial that shows you how to borrow books from libraries using Overdrive and checking them out on your Kindle. Check it out HERE.

amazon kindle overdrive

Welcome to an exclusive Good e-Reader video tutorial on how to borrow ebooks using Overdrive to your Amazon Kindle e-Reader! We document the entire step by step process on how to search for a book and check it out using your Overdrive account!

Kindle Library Lending is a new feature recently implemented and there is a fair amount of confusion on how to borrow a book. The purpose of this tutorial is to make life significantly easier for you, showing you the entire process.

Also a small amendment on the video! You can only transfer books to your Amazon Kindle via WIFI or USB. Currently 3G is not supported so you cannot use the older model Kindles with that feature to fetch books automatically.

pandigital nova

Welcome to another Good e-Reader Review Video! Today we give you a solid 18 minute review of the new Pandigital Nova Tablet!

This new tablet from Pandigital expands upon their previous offerings, such as the Pandigital Novel line of devices. It runs a more current version of Google Android 2.3 than previous iterations. It has a 7 inch TFT Resistive touchscreen with a resolution of 600×800. I find the screens pandigital use are flimsy and make the colors look very washed out. It is also harder to type and navigate around the device, so I recommend you use a stylus. It also has a solid front and rear facing camera.

The Pandigital Nova has 4 GB of internal storage and you can further enhance it via the MicroSD card up to 32 GB. There is 512 MB of RAM, which is fairly consistent with most low and mid range tablets. It has WIFI for internet connectivity and Micro HDMI which is a solid plus. It also has a Mini USB and 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The speaker on the back of the device is very weak and even on full blast, you can’t really hear anything. I find it odd that Pandigital is fairly notorious for putting speakers on the back of the device instead of its side or front.

In this video we are going to show you all of the applications that come bundled with the device. We show you ebooks and how they look, videos, pictures, and more! We really put this device through the paces in this official Pandigital Nova Review Video.
