Corwin to Unveil Digital Professional Development

By

Corwin, a company specializing in resource and academic materials geared towards educators, will be unveiling a new eLibrary at the upcoming Learning Forward Conference in December. These digital libraries will provide titles for professional development that coincide with the Common Core practices and other high-interest topics.

“Corwin eLibraries offers educators the convenience of having all their PD resources in one place,” said Mike Soules, president of Corwin, in a press release. “Districts can design a customized PD plan to direct learning in key areas based on the titles that have been specially selected by our trusted editorial team. In addition, because Corwin eLibraries can be accessed by every staff member in a district, it represents an exceptional value compared to purchasing books individually.”

Some of the features that make this an intriguing choice for educational systems is that it allows for simultaneous use, unlike outdated systems which required each school to utilize materials on a checkout basis, as well as using fully searchable digital titles.

With three collections available for subscribers now, plus an additional five collections of materials becoming available by December 1, Corwin aims to provide a base of as many as fifty different resource titles to educators in the near future. A full demonstration and launch will take place at the Boston area convention next month.

is a young-adult author and a teacher in a correctional facility. She does not have a single textbook in her classroom. With the top-of-the-line technology at her disposal and the low reading ability of many of her students, there’s no need for standard paper texts. Instead she relies on e-readers, iPads, desktop PCs, Polycom video conferencing equipment for virtual field trips, live streaming for science demonstrations, and text-to-speech read-aloud software to teach English and science. Within the next ten years, public school classrooms across the country are going to look a lot more like Mercy’s classroom because the educational possibilities with these kinds of technologies are limitless.
