Tool of Change has announced it has stopped running the annual convention. This is all very timely, as the company announced its new Atlas Publishing project. Did O’Reilly only start the digital publishing conference to get intelligence on what the industry needed and now that the company has the results, it killed something it no longer needed?

Of course, we look at the new Q10 that was just released and give you our thoughts on if its a viable investment. Also, we look at the hotel industry and how they are adopting tablets in bars, rooms, and everywhere in-between. The company is offering this for a low monthly fee if you are an existing Prime member, or a little bit more if you aren’t. I’ll break down all the essential elements you need to know!

Staff writer Mercy Pilkington was in London, England yesterday, covering Futurebook 2012. This was organized by the Bookseller and featured Pottermore, Kobo, Barnes and Noble, Sourcebooks, Ingram, and a ton more! We videotaped interviews with every single one of these companies and covered all of their sessions. Good e-Reader was the only North American based media outlet covering the event, and we were in the top 5 tweeters too! Mercy is a one woman army and did us proud!

Welcome back to another installment of the Good e-Reader Radio Show! We have reached a lull in product reviews and new e-readers coming out, so now we can sit back and talk about them all. The new Nook HD, Kobo Arc, iPad Mini, and Kindle 8.9 are all due out in November, and we will be overflowing with reviews and articles about them! I will make sure we do an audio broadcast when these hit our labs, so you can hear our early thoughts and impressions.

Today on the show we talk about some of the details surrounding the Penguin and Random House merger. What it means to the industry and what type of control each company will have. This is a huge deal, and the effects will reverberate throughout the industry for years to come.

The New Microsoft Tablet and Windows 8 was commercially released last Friday and we did tons of video and written content on it. I’ll give you the lowdown about the Kindle, Kobo, Overdrive, Zinio, and Kno apps that were released. Really, Windows 8 is a huge paradigm shift over any other iteration of the OS ever released.
