Kindle Dump Could Be A Sign of New Things to Come

Brian Barrett of Gizmodo posted an interesting theory related to Amazon’s price slashing of all things Kindle DX today, a theory that consumers can only hope in their collective hearts is true. Why should digital reading fans care so much if Amazon slashes the price of the 10” Kindle DX, a two-years-out-of-date e-reader that never really took off? Because, as Barrett speculates, it could mean Amazon is making room on the shelves for the long-awaited 10” Kindle Fire tablet.

Rumors about an iPad rival have been around for some time, but so far nothing has come of them. However, Amazon has a track record of drastically reducing the price on expensive stock to clear the way for new product. Along with the price cut today on the Kindle DX, accessories for other Kindle models were on sale. Additionally, some other top-selling Kindle editions were no longer available on the Amazon website.

As an update to his post, Barrett mentioned a comment from one reader that said Amazon Visa customers were offered 40% off any Kindle last week, in what can hopefully be perceived as a thorough house cleaning in the Amazon warehouses to make way for new devices.
