Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Revealed

By

The Galaxy Note 10.1 was expected to be launched at the ongoing MWC event in Barcelona and Samsung hasn’t disappointed. The big brother to the widely successful Galaxy Note device, the Note 10.1, brings along a whole new perspective to the tablet scene by including the S-Pen support, a first for a tablet this big in recent times. The last time we saw a high profile tablet that included a stylus has been the HTC Flyer with a 7 inch display.

Coming back to the Galaxy Note 10.1, the tablet is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos dual core CPU clocked at 1.4 GHz that operates in conjugation with a 1 GB RAM. On-board storage options include 16, 32, and 64 GB with 32 GB more that can be added via microSD card. The tablet includes a front and rear 2 and 3 megapixel (with LED) camera, with a 10.1 inch 1280 × 800 PLS TFT display making up the tablet’s front. Android 4.0 ICS will be the standard operating system with the usual TouchWiz UI built on top of it. A 7000 mAh battery keeps thing moving with the tablet that also boasts of Wi-Fi and HSPA+ connectivity. All of the above has been packed into a case that’s just 8.9mm thick and weighs 585 grams, but does share some similarity with the Galaxy Tab 10.1N, what with those front facing speakers along the side bezel.

Now coming to the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet’s biggest USP, the included S Pen is being touted to be the most advanced input solution currently available and one that Samsung claims will allow for “analog pen writing experience on a digital device.”

The tablet comes pre-loaded with Adobe® Photoshop® Touch and Adobe Ideas, both of which has been optimized for operation with the S Pen so that users will get to have the best photo editing and drawing experiences. This apart, the tablet also features apps—Shape Match and Formula Match—targeted specifically at the student community. While Formula Match is aimed at correcting and digitizing formulas that have been hand-drawn with the S Pen, the Shape Match app allows for digitizing hand-drawn geometric shapes.

Another unique app that the Galaxy Note 10.1 offers is the S Note, “a unique and efficient tool that lets you combine notes or sketches together with web content, images and other digital media into your own personalized storyboards.” The app also offers various ready to use templates such as meeting minutes, recipes, diary, and so on. Users also have the option to slip the screen into two for viewing content in one part while taking notes on the other.

Other apps the Galaxy Note 10.1 will come pre-installed with include Slice It! and Comic Book, as well as Catch Notes, Touchnote, and Hello Crayon along with Samsung Hub services such as Readers Hub, Video Hub, Game Hub, Music Hub, and Chat On.

With so much to offer, Samsung is clearly targeting designers, businessmen, and students alike with the Galaxy Note 10.1.

“GALAXY Note 10.1 takes productivity on a Note to a whole new level. With a larger, fully utilizable screen and superior performance, it combines the intuitiveness of handwriting with all the versatility of digital content to let users be more productive across all of life’s demanding tasks—whether working, learning, or simply creating their own stories,” said JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.

No word on pricing and availability as yet. Meanwhile, we have already seen the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in a pre-MWC release and hope the rumored ultra high resolution tablet to also debut soon.
