Just joined as I'm interested in getting an e-reader. I don't know much about them yet so I'll be doing a lot of browsing the forum for tips!
I just need a reader that I can plug into my laptop and transfer ebooks vie a USB cable.
So any tips will be welcome !

Welcome! It's a wonderful site the powers that be have here....
1. if the book doesn't open, redownload it, I've found that if I hit save on a file, then try to change where the file saves to, the entire file won't download, and I have to redownload it...
2. instead of searching from the main pages, go to "advanced search" type in the author or book title, then select "search titles only" from the dropdown menu, works WAY better!!
3. if you have any questions, just ask! :) There are plenty of people who can answer them!!

I'm a serious fan of the Nook, which takes USB loading from PC very well... and can work with PDF files, as well as ePub files.

Welcome! :)

My name says it all.....Kindle krazy! lol I took my "baby" out of the box and was ready to go! I figured out how to transfer books via the usb by myself without even ready the manuel (yes, it's that simple!) and I'm NOT a whiz on the computer! lol With goodereader subscription service, I have been able to put more ebooks on my reader than I ever could have by buying them separately on Amazonor any other ebook seller! Once you start with an ereader, watch out, it is ADDICTIVE!! I sold off all of my dead tree books and only use my Kindle now!Welcome and feel free to ask any questions you might have as someone from the admins to us forum dwellers will be glad to help ya out!

Hi, I also have kindle and agree with kindlekrazy. I have not had a problem with a book not opening yet. Quick hint is to use the forum how-tos. Great videos for everything and read differnt faqs. Good luck. We all love it here and think its the best deal around.

I have a nook. Very easy to put books on via USB. If you download a free program Calibre (http://calibre-ebook.com/) it is very easy. Calibre is to ebooks, what itunes is to mp3s.

Hi there Everyone,
I have just joined also. I am excited to learn how to navigate, and to learn how to download books to my Kindle. It was a very hard decision (buying a e-reader). I love everything there is to love about books! I am unsure how it will be with a reader. But I am running out of room in my house because I have books everywhere!!
So hopefully this will be the start of a great reading relationship! Hope to chat with you all soon!
