A research team in the U.S. has done a study that suggests people retain less information from the books they read on their e-reader due to the e-readers being easier to read. Apparently the crisp fonts are so easy on the eyes that it takes almost no effort at all to absorb the information. They argue that because our brains didn't have to work as hard to capture the information it won't be retained as long. According to their study subjects retained 14% less information when reading from an electronic reader than subjects reading from paper books.

I'm not too sure about that myself as I feel I retain roughly the same amount of information either way. Also with my e-reader I can carry a lot more books around with me. I feel inclined to read more often and to reread material as well.

So how about you? Do you read more or less with your new toy? Do you retain more or less?

Don't know about retention.

Personally, I don't really take notice of any differences in retention... but I do find it more enjoyable to read a physical book than I do with my eReader. My eReads are for those books I need to read at work, or those that are lent to me.

I think that really depends on the person. I wonder how those studies were conducted and how they would look in comparison to what people read on computers. I feel like because the ereader is much crisper and easier to read that I obtain more information, whereas online I have distractions and cannot hold it like a book nor be as portable.
