Default Kindle: How to Transfer Files from your PC to your Kindle

how to transfer music or books to your Kindle device. 1. Connect your Kindle to your computer. It will be available as a drive under My Computer for Windows users or in the Finder for Mac.
    2. There are 3 folders on the device:

    • Documents – Digital reading materials. Newspapers, books, etc.
    • Audible – Audiobooks.
    • Music – MP3 files.

Copy your files to their respective folders to transfer them to the device. The Kindle supports these file formats:

    • Kindle (.AZW)
    • Text (.TXT)
    • Unprotected Mobipocket (.MOBI, .PRC)
    • Audible (.AA)
    • MP3 (.MP3)

Tell me exactly what you are doing,

    You should be

connecting your kindle to your pc via USB
then you should take the .MOBI or .PRC ebook you downloaded
and copy/paste to your kindle in the documents folder
then disconnect your kindle, turn your kindle off then on and the book should be there.

Does this work the same for a non-kindle device, like iPhone or Android Slates?

    What was the file format?

I only have used .MOBI so far and have not had a problem with dragging and dropping.

I do have a problem with my computer recognizing my kindle as a drive though. Not uncommon and the Kindle folks deny it is an issue.

    Default few questions

your tutorial and video on transferring files to the kindle were helpful, but I have a couple of questions.

First, does this transfer system still work for the newest kindle model?

Second, are there any limitiations or qualifications with regard to the files that you can transfer, as long as they are in proper file format (mobi, pdf, etc)? If I buy the kindle, I would want to tranfer lots of pdfs that I made from scanning various material or that I downloaded from various sites so I can carry them with me, and I am wondering if I will have any formatting or other problems with such files.

Finally, does this transfer process work in reverse? Can I copy/drag something from the kindle docs folder onto my desktop to transfer to another devise (as a method of booksharing with a friend who has a kindle)?

    thanks.
