Default Ways to get ebooks from others stores

    1. On your PC/Mac (won't work on the eDGe) go to http://ebookstore.sony.com and click the "Download Software" link (top of page)
    2. When you register with Sony, specify the same email address as you gave as your Adobe ID on the eDGe (usually the same as your primary email with enTourage customer account)
    3. After installing the software, launch it. Find and purchase a book
    4. Find the EPUB/PDF in a folder called "My Books" under "My Documents"
    5. Transfer this to your eDGe via SD card, USB memory stick, email, or mini-USB cable
    6. On your eDGe, find then tap and hold on the file and "Add to Library", after which you can remove the file on the SD card/USB stick, etc.

This will copy the book to the eDGe's internal storage and allow you to do annotations on it. Note that the Adobe ID email address you specified on the Registration screen on the eDGe must match the email address you use to register with any site selling Adobe Digital Editions (a.k.a. Adobe Reader) books.

I recommend you try this with a test book, something costing only a couple of dollars. Once you see that it works, you can purchase more expensive books with confidence.

No matter where/how you get an EPUB/PDF DRM-protected book, to get it on your eDGe you can copy it to an SDCard or USB memory stick and insert in your eDGe, browse for it, tap-and-hold on the file and "Add to Library", which copies it to the internal storage and allows you to specify things like Tags and later on do annotations. You can also get it via email, or transfer it from your PC via the mini-USB cable (I haven't tried this way yet).

Before you make a purchase on a site other than enTourage's, make sure it's clear the ebook requires "Adobe Digital Editions". Alternate names include "Adobe Reader" and I think "Digital Editions". The Adobe system is convenient because you can read the books you buy on multiple kinds of devices - your PC, a Mac, your eDGe, etc. Kindle books won't work. Barns & Noble won't work. "MOBI" books won't work. Sony Reader Store books (http://ebookstore.sony.com/) do because they're actually using the Adobe system to protected their books. Some "open" sites like http://www.ebooks.com and http://www.ebookmall.com offer multiple formats, so be sure you're buying the "Adobe" version.

A key bit of information is your "Adobe ID" (email address). You must register and use the same one everywhere in order for all your purchases and reading devices to access the same set of books. Note that some sites may not explicitly ask for it and simply use the email you registered with their site as your Adobe ID. So, I recommend you use the same email address on the Adobe site and any eBook site as the one you set up your user account with.

Personally, I always do my non-enTourage ebook buying from my PC. Some sources might work directly on the eDGe (like "open" sites), but I haven't tried too many of those. The Sony Reader client application doesn't have an Android version for the eDGe, so for Sony Reader books you definitely have to use a Mac or PC). The rest of this post assumes you're doing it from your PC (Mac would be similar I think).

Most "open" stores allow you to simply download the EPUB or PDF file, like enTourage does in its eBook store (you can download from the website on our PC as well as on your eDGe). Sometimes what you're downloading is a short "ACSM" file which, when you double-click, launches Adobe Digital Editions (on your PC) when then proceeds to download the file (this requires that you install the free Adobe Digital Editions reader: http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/). If Adobe Digital Editions opened and downloaded your eBook, you'll find the EPUB/PDF in a folder called "My Digital Editions" under "My Documents".

To buy a book on the Sony Reader Store (http://ebookstore.sony.com), you have to download, install and use the Sony Reader software (you'll see a "Download Software" link at the top of the page). Once installed, you use it to purchase ebooks using essentially the same web UI as the website itself. Your purchases will download to a folder called "My Books\Reader Library" under "My Documents".

For other stores, if you don't get a direct download for an ASCM or EPUB/PDF file, you'll have to search your "My Documents" folder for the directory where it puts them (usually it will have "book" or "library" in the folder name).

Once you locate the EPUB or PDF file in the Adobe or Sony download location on your PC, all you have to do is transfer it (by whatever means) to your eDGe. When you "Add to Library", the eDGe will confirm the Adobe ID on the book and allow you to read it.

Note that any book you can read on your eDGe, you can also read on your PC. Simply copy the EPUB/PDF to your PDF, launch Adobe Digital Editions, and "Import" it (or just right-click the file and "Open With").
