Default The internal Micro-SD slot (Read if you're gonna insert one)

This post is about adding the extra storage card to your Nook. This is not related to the root instructions found elsewhere.

Anyone (like me) who has a Blackberry probably already understands this slot.

First, the MicroSD card slot is actually behind the back cover. There's two long slots in the side of the nook that you can use your fingernails to pry off the back. This gives you access to the battery and MicroSD expansion slot.

The MicroSD slot has a small metal flap that holds the card in place. Some people have said just "flip this up" but be advised that it slides horizontally to lock in place. So, if yours is locked (it may or may not be - with no card exerting pressure it may slide itself to the "open" position) you need to first slide the clip horizontally before trying to pry it up. There's two positions - open and closed - before it flips up to allow insertion of the card.

Here it's locked closed. Notice the position of the black tab on the right side in the metal:

From this orientation, you slide the clip up. Here it is unlocked after sliding it up:

Now here's the trick - there should be NO resistance to flipping it open. If there is, it's probably locked. I've seen reports on other boards of people breaking the clip by prying it open while it was in the locked position.

Here it is after flipping it open:

Once open, the card slides in, metal contacts first, contacts face down. The card will be a perfect fit and seem almost like it's just loosely laying there before you close the metal clip.

This is the orientation of the card for insertion:

Here it is inserted - notice it isn't inserted into the flipped up clip - it just drops into position:

After inserting the card, flip the clip back down:

Now you slide the clip down to lock it in place. Again - almost no pressure is required to do this.

I'd recommend opening and closing the clip once or twice before ever placing the card into the slot so you have a feel for it.

For me it wasn't a problem because it's identical to a lot of the Blackberry memory card slots, and I had already had to figure it out on that device.

This was VERY helpful. I was amazed at how incredibly tiny the SD card is... but, it is now in my Nook, and working just fine!
