Bad news for Augen! Seems that all the Google apps that were pre-installed on the Augen Gentouch were there without any licence from the big G. The app store wasn`t working anyway but everything else was working just fine but currently Augen is not allowed to ship their devices with any of the Googles applications. In their press release they said that they came to an agreement with Google on the part that no action will be taken on behalf of the already sold tablets. This is a very nice behavior from Googles side as they clearly had the possibility here to kill the whole Augen company off with a single law suit if they wanted to do so. But clearly there wasnt no point in doing so as Google wants to attract new startups not scare everybody away.
The main problem was actually that although Android is an open source OS, Google apps are not. Augen said that they were left in the software unintentionally. Whether this is true or not doesn`t really matter that much.
I`m quite sure that Augen and Google will come to some sort of an agreement and new Augen Gentouch models will have all the Google apps installed to them. This whole Gentouch launch has gained too much media attention so it would only hurt Google if they were uncooperative.
So meanwhile the score is Google 1 : Augen 0
