Welcome to an exclusive edition of the Good e-Reader Radio show! Today we dive deeper into our Indie Author Initiative and go into what you need to do to effectively self promote yourself to garner more interest in your ebook.
As digital publishing becomes more established and more authors are testing the waters in the online world, new challenges arise to standout from the crowd. The purpose of this tutorial is to really give you all of the tools you need to employ to be more visible on the search engines.
The first method you want to employ is to setup your own webpage. Having a good domain name and hosting service is essential and you don’t have to break the bank to do it. We dive into details on hosting companies and what you need to know to create a webpage that allows you to maintain a strong online presence.
Next we talk about the importance of having a Blog, I really like the WordPress platform. A blog will allow you to interact with your fans or to build a following of readers based on your posting practices. Some authors choose to have their blog as their characters voice and expand upon an established world. If i wrote a book about vampires in an urban setting, I would write some various prospectives of random normal people witnessing extraordinary events. It does not give any spoilers, but could flesh out the book world. We also go into detail on the important of a Blog and things can you do to enhance the quality of it.
Social Media continues to be a strong factor in creating an online presence. Facebook and Twitter lead the pack in terms of the most popular, so create accounts and link those accounts back to your website and blog! This will create an interwoven network. If someone lands on your webpage, they can as easily visit your blog as your Facebook profile. It is very important for people to find you via different mediums.
Finally we get into details on promotional tactics you can employ such as Press Releases, Contests, Reviews, Booktrailers and so much more! If you are an independent author or an aspiring one this is the show for you. We really break it down on what you need to do to stand out in a crowd of other authors. The trick is to always work harder and smarter then your competition. All the things I mention for you to do will help boost sales, get more attention and create a long-term online presence.
If you are an independent author, stay tuned for continued stories on the plights of being a self published author. This week we will feature stories from Kobo, BookBaby and various authors. You can hear their tales on their successes and their failures, as well as be introduced to new companies and services. This is all apart of our May long feature “The Indie Author Initiative.
