Kobo e-readers are now $10 more expensive
Quote from Sovan Mandal on 2 February 2025, 4:02 PMKobo has raised the prices of some of its e-reader devices globally. The Kobo Clara BW, the Kobo Clara Colour, and the Kobo Libra Colour each will henceforth cost $10 more in Canada, US, UK, and other markets. This affects not only Kobo products sold on the main Kobo website but also all of their other distribution partners.
Other Kobo devices, such as the Kobo Elipsa 2E and the Kobo Sage, will continue to be sold at the same prices as before. As per the new pricing, the Kobo Clara BW will cost $139.99, while the Kobo Clara Colour will cost $159.99. Similarly, the Kobo Libra Color will cost $229.99 in the US.
At $140, the Kobo Clara BW is the most affordable Kobo e-reader available. Its performance impresses and the E Ink Carta 1300 display is excellent for reading almost any content type. The e-reader also offers a great audiobook experience. However, its plasticky build makes it look cheap. At this price point, it is only $20 less expensive than the Kindle Paperwhite and $30 more expensive than the basic Kindle.
Considering that Kindle e-readers are available on sale quite often, you can get the Kindle Paperwhite at a price lower than the Kobo Clara BW if you are watchful enough. Needless to say, the Kindle Paperwhite is a much superior e-reader compared to the Clara BW. On other days, you can always opt for the basic Kindle, which is impressive in its build, performance, and brilliant display. On any given day, the Kindle is $30 cheaper than the Clara BW, and the gap widens even further during Amazon sales.
Interestingly, the Kobo Clara BW has been out of stock for some time. Now that it is back in stock, it is much more expensive. The last Kobo price hike occurred in 2023 when it raised the prices of all its e-reader devices by $10.
