Official X Account of Viz Media Has Been Hacked
Quote from Sovan Mandal on 30 January 2025, 4:10 PMThe official X (Twitter) account of Viz Media, the largest manga publisher in the US, has been hacked, the website ComicBook reported. Viz Media is the latest to fall victim to a new crypto scam that has so far targeted several celebrities and companies in the US following the swearing-in of US President Trump. While many seem to have regained control of their X account, Viz Media is still left in the lurch.
The company's profile picture along with the banner image, the account name as well as the hyperlink to the official Viz website have all been removed. As of now, the account has been named "." with the profile and banner image sections remaining blank. The scammers initially posted a message asking visitors to buy the $VIZ digital token. Interestingly, $VIZ is a real digital token which however isn't even remotely connected to the manga publisher apart from sharing the same name.
Even though the tweet promoting the new digital currency has now been removed, the scammers are up to something really strange. They are now retweeting old posts from the X Engineering page. It isn't clear at the moment what is taking this long for Viz Media to regain control of their X account. In any case, this makes it seem like those involved with the $VIZ digital token to be behind the entire hacking incident.
Viz Media has to its credit several English translations of some of the most iconic manga titles. Those include Fullmetal Alchemist, Spy X Family, Chainsaw Man, One Piece, Goodnight Pun Pun, and so on. The company also recently announced the re-release of one of its most popular mangas, which includes the Definitive Edition of Takehiko Inoue’s Vagabond, with several more to be added later.
