E-book reader devices these days come in various shapes and sizes. There are what can be termed the conventional e-reader devices of the sort of the Kindle Paperwhite or the Kobo Clara. There also are the likes of the Boox Palma (Palma 2 being the latest iteration) which happens to be a palm-sized e-reader or the Bigme HiBreak Pro which is a smartphone with an E Ink display. Then there is the Sol Reader which is an e-reader in the form of a sunglass and is easily one of the most weird e-reader devices we have ever had.
Now, here comes a dual-screen e-reader named inkReader duo which is in the form of a smartphone having twin E Ink displays. What that means is there actually are two separate E Ink displays at work here which you can open or close in the form of a book. As YankoDesign revealed, the basic design of the inkReader Duo quite resembles the LG G8X ThinQ dual-screen smartphone that the South Korean company launched several years ago.
If you aren’t familiar with the G8X ThinQ, the inkReader duo also comes with a primary device which comes with an E Ink display. It can be detached from the shell and can be used independently. The other E Ink display which comes fixed with the case is designed to function only as long as the primary device is attached to the case. It even lacks a battery of its own and gets its juice via pogo pins from the primary device once the same is attached to the case.
All of this makes for a very interesting implementation of an E Ink device, it must be said though how practical it is in real life is something that remains to be seen. That said, the inkReader duo can also function as a phone-sized e-reader device that can easily fit in your pocket. Again, once opened, it can become a 7-inch or so e-reader. You can read on one screen and take notes on another. You can also read in landscape mode in which case the two screens can seem like one big screen if you don’t mind the hinge and the gap in between.
However, how useful the inkReader duo turns out to be in real life will depend a lot on how well-optimized the underlying OS is made for dual-screen operations. That said, there is no guarantee that the device will reach the production stage. In any case, what perhaps can’t be denied is that the inkReader duo is one of the most interesting e-reader concepts we have seen in recent times.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
