A startup by the name Arpobot has announced it will have a new E Ink Canvas to offer soon, eReaderPro reported. Bloomin8, as the E Ink canvas is named will come with several convenient features such as an integrated long-lasting battery, besides supporting wireless operations. With no wires, you can place it just about anywhere and anytime. There is no restriction for it to be placed within the vicinity of a charging outlet thanks to the built-in battery which can last more than a year on a single charge.
As it is, e-paper displays are known to have very frugal power requirements as they draw power only when the image changes. There is almost zero power drawn as long as the display remains static, which is what a picture frame is supposed to be like. No wonder the makers are claiming a battery life of more than one year on a single charge. One added advantage here is that even if the battery runs out, the display won’t blank out as is the case with conventional displays. The last displayed picture will continue to be shown.
The Bloomin8 uses Spectra 6 color e-paper display and comes in three size options. The entry-level picture frame has a 7.3-inch Spectra 6 panel. This makes it suitable for personal use and can be placed on the desktop. Next comes a 13.3-inch sized display which is the standard digital frame size that you can hang on the wall. Lastly, there is a 28.5-inch screen that is going to be for large-scale art displays and is developed in partnership with E Ink and Sharp.
The Spectra 6, as is already known, offers higher levels of color saturation and contrast compared to Kaleido 3. It otherwise has all the advantages associated with e-paper displays, which include a glare-free display that is soft on your eyes. In fact, the ultra-matte display that has a soothing effect on the screen is very pleasant on the eyes and makes the picture very inviting.
The Bloomin8 is also compatible with Home Assistant and can be controlled via the Restful API. It can be mated with the existing home automation network and can be made to change pictures automatically depending on the time of day, the weather outside, specific preferences, and so on. There is even an AI-enabled image generation feature that you can use to generate your own images if you so want.
Bloomin8 is slated to make its debut on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter on March 19, 2025. We can have more details including pricing and shipping info once that happens.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
