Barnes and Noble has been running a sales promotion on their latest generation 7.8 inch e-reader, the Nook Glowlight Plus, since April. While 600 retail stores remain closed, they have to sell as many devices as possible and since they are sitting on a huge inventory, it only makes sense to continue to sell them online at a 10% savings. The regular price is $199 and you can order one today for $179.
The Nook Glowlight Plus 2019 edition is the largest screen the bookseller has ever produced. They were utterly obsessed with six inch screens for the past ten years, but it looks like they finally delivered larger screen real estate so more text can be displayed, at any given time. It has high resolution text, a front-lit display and color temperature system and it is also waterproof.
Don’t get me wrong, the Nook is good, the hardware itself is perfect, for the price. I just wish they invested more in the software experience, fixed bugs and enhanced the performance. The only firmware update it has ever received was the 1.3 one, that was delivered in August of 2019.
It remains to be seen when this deal will end. I believe it will continue until most stores open again and they can put it back to the normal price. Barnes and Noble never announces current deals on e-readers and tablets.
