We reported a week ago that there was confirmed reports of Amazon placing a massive order totaling 3.2 billion dollars for 700,000 tablets a month with Taiwan based Quanta Computers. Today Consumer Reports asked Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos point blank about his companies plans to launch a tablet. He told them to ”stay tuned.’
The main reason he did not full on announce the plans of the tablet is that the marketing arm has not put together the creative campaign yet and internally Amazon does not want to give the impression that it is killing off the Kindle e-Reader. He emphasized that should any tablet device be in their future, that it will supplement rather than supplant the Kindle. He feels that there is still an important place for a “purpose-built e-reading device.”
