There have been reports here of a tablet device being readied by the electronics giant Acer. And now as per the latest tablet PC news (or maybe even the latest tablet PC rumors), we are going to be treated with not one but a double tablet bonaza from Acer. For the Taiwan based company is reported to be giving shape to two tablet PCs, one each in the 7 and 10 inch category. Surely it would mark a grand entry to the tablet scene for Acer and will allow the world’s second largest PC maker to take on two of the most happening segments of the tablet scene in one go. After all, Acer is too big a company to be not in the tablet segment, which right now forms the most exciting segment in the computing industry.
Acer has always been know for making competitively priced products, a trait that the forthcoming tablet devices too are likely to be imbibed with. Detailed info is lacking and the only pieces known indicate the tablets will make it to the retailers during the fourth quarter of this year. Both of them will run the latest Android 2.2 Froyo operating system and will be compatible with Adobe Flash.
Both the 7 inch and the 10.1 inch tablet will have the ARM processors at their core, which are know for being kind on the battery. So we can expect the tablets to come up with respectable battery life figures, something that has been the sore point for Windows 7 till now. Acer may also be endowing 3G connectivity to the two tablet with maybe even a subsidized data plan to further enhance their appeal.
So it seems the iPad may finally have a worthy competitor, that is if Acer can get its act together.
