The Arnova 8 from Archos that has been making an appearance off and on for quite some time is now finally available for pre-order. The Arnova brand represents the budget tablet range from the French manufacturer and the latest on offer, the Archos 8 is no exception, priced as it is at an affordable $159.99.
The tablet is now on offer at J&R, who is accepting pre-orders at that price. Also, the price alone should be indicate that the tablet won’t be record breaker on the speed or performance stakes. So what you get for $160 of your hard earned money is a device with an 8 inch resistive touch screen display having a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels that comes pre-installed with Android 2.1 Eclair. The tablet will have 4 GB of internal storage though there is also a micro SD card slot to ensure one can have storage when needed. Unfortunately, there is no mention of the type or make of CPU that the tablet is based on.
These apart, the Arnova 8 also comes with 2 USB ports, 2 built-in speakers, and a microphone. To connect to the internet the Arnova 8 boasts of 802.11b/g WiFi and will also be able to playback 720p videos along with a host of audio and image files as well. As for its battery performance, the Arnova 8 allegedly has a music playback time of up to 42 hours along with a video playback time of up to 8 hours. The Arnova 8 is handy, weighing 13.7 ounces while sporting external dimensions of 8 x 4.2 x 0.5 inches.
So, while the spec sheet might not be a shining example of what the tablet is capable of, the price tag definitely is and that does matter to some extent at least.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
