Nokia is one smartphone maker of repute that has remained inconspicuous in the booming tablet segment while its peers went about on a tablet launching spree. That’s going to change though, as the company has now announced they too are all set to jump on to the hot tablet segment. However, that is not going to happen before June next while Nokia will also be slightly unconventional in its approach as it intends to have a device in place running Windows 8. This while the Google Android operating system has almost been the unanimous choice of most other tablet makers. The choice of the operating system to be Windows and not Android shouldn’t come as a surprise though considering the recent tie-up between the Finnish smartphone maker and Microsoft.
“In June 2012, we will have a tablet running Windows 8,” revealed the head of Nokia in France, Mr. Paul Amsellem.
The release date mentioned might raise a few eye brows considering Microsoft has stated they would be releasing the mobile oriented version of the Windows operating system sometime in the third quarter of 2012.
Nokia has never acknowledged they are into the tablet race until now though it was just a matter of time before it did, for it would have meant remaining shut out from a hot new emerging market the size of which is staggering and is measured in millions in the number of units sold.
Apple’s iOS and the Google Andorid are the two dominant operating systems in the tablet segment so far while Windows 8 can be the third major force if it gets its act right. As for the upcoming Nokia tablet, almost nothing is known as of now but there sure will be a lot of leaks and rumors in the run up to its launch in the summer of 2012. So keep watching this space.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
