ProQuest and Bibliotheque National de France to Digitize Important and Rare Works via Early European Books Program
Digitization of the world's heritage increases day by day. Now, ProQuest and the Biblioteque national de France have joined to digitize about 70,000 books from the library's collection of European books printed before 1700. ProQuest Will Acquire eBook Library
ProQuest is on a roll. After acquiring ebrary in 2011, it has now signed an agreement to acquire Ebook Library (EBL). The ebrary acquisition was timed to occur on the eve of the ALA midwinter meeting, and this has been duplicated with the EBL acquisition. Once again Smashwords is showing up the mainstream publishers. According to ALA TechSource, the Douglas County Libraries acquired 10,000 titles of self-published ebooks from Smashwords.
