Apple News and Apple News+ will expand into other countries starting in 2025. The news system is available in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. There is no word yet on what countries will have publishers catering to the news for national and local coverage. Apple News+ includes all paid news publications and thousands of digital magazines.’
Facebook has phased out its news feed for many countries, and Google is bypassing website visits by having AI summering search queries. Apple News currently reaches about 125 million people every month. It feeds into the company’s growing services business, including Apple TV+ and Apple Pay, worth about $96 billion annually.
The Financial Times, which initially broke this story, said, “Apple’s research has shown that Apple News reaches a different audience to the readers for most publishers. The audience tends to trend towards a more wealthy demographic, adding that it was “well read in the corridors of power in Westminster and Washington.
Apple News has about 100 editors working in teams across London, New York, Sydney, and California. Over 450 publishers are on the platform, pumping out news stories daily.
Apple News launched 10 years ago, and one key benefit is that it is preinstalled on all new iPhone and iPad tablets. This gives it a tremendous advantage over rival news apps for users’ home screens. However, it is a free service, while the subscription service costs $12.99 a month in the US and £12.99 in the UK.
