TCL is showing off a bunch of smartphones and a tablet at MWC 2025. Of the half a dozen TCL 60 series phones that the company is showcasing at the event, two of them and the tablet – the TCL NxtPaper 11 Plus – come with the famed NxtPaper display technology.
Just in case you aren’t already familiar with the NxtPaper display tech, it is similar to conventional displays and has the same color reproduction capabilities and high refresh rates as LCD but can have the look and feel as that of e-paper displays, or for that matter, plain paper at the flick of a switch. It is NxtPaper 4.0 that happens to be the latest version of the display tech that the company introduced at CES 2025.
Among the other benefits of the NxtPaper display technology is markedly reduced glare while harmful blue light is also emitted the least. All of this makes the display extremely pleasing to the eyes. They have wide viewing angles while the high color accuracy along with high refresh rate makes them suitable for almost any tasks that traditional displays are capable of. That includes watching videos or playing high-speed games, things that are quite impossible on even the most advanced e-paper display currently available.
Coming to the devices TCL launched at the MWC event, those include the TCL 60 XE NxtPaper 5G smartphone and the TCL NxtPaper 11 Plus tablet. Both made their debut at the CES 2025 event in January and are slated for launch in North America. As Android Police stated, the TCL 60 XE NxtPaper 5G smartphone will be available in Canada from May onwards and is going to cost CA$325. It will reach US markets later this year and will cost $200.
The TCL 60 XE NxtPaper 5G smartphone comes with a 6.8-inch NxtPaper 4.0 display having FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. It features an 8 GB RAM and 256 GB of storage. Among the other highlights of the phone include a triple 50 MP camera setup at the rear and a 5010 mAh battery. It also features a special switch pressing which will launch the e-paper mode that is best suited for reading activities. The battery is also at its most frugal and can last over a week in this mode.
The TCL NxtPaper 11 Plus tablet, on the other hand, comes with an 11.5-inch NxtPaper 4.0 display having 2.2k resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It comes with 256 GB storage and an 8000 mAh battery that is backed by 33W fast charging. It measures just 6.5mm in profile and weighs 490 grams.
Meanwhile, the company introduced the TCL 60 NxtPaper and TCL 60 SE NxtPaper 5G smartphone at MWC priced at €200 and €190 respectively. While the TCL 60 NxtPaper is slated for launch in Latin America and Asia Pacific, the TCL 60 SE NxtPaper 5G is going to be available in Asia Pacific, Europe, and Latin America.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
