Much of the emphasis at Digital Book World this year has been on children’s digital content, with a full day of pre-conference events on the topic, as well as several breakout sessions on this first full event day dedicated to the discussion of the unique nature of digital content for kids.
When ereading first emerged as a viable commercial market, a lot of publishers initially shied away from the children’s genre because parents were reluctant to let their kids loose with expensive devices. As Rick Richter, CEO of Ruckus Media Group, explained in an interview with GoodeReader, those concerns have lessened now that devices have come down in price and are no longer a niche-market product. Fortunately, the publishers have responded to the technology with a wealth of companies producing top-notch children’s digital literature.
