Amazon plans to focus on the core of its business when it comes to its own branded hardware. Amazon’s head of devices, Panos Panay, spoke with Bloomberg about their plans. Amazon’s usual lineup of devices that aim to be as inexpensive as possible. As opposed to Amazon’s past strategy of putting Alexa in all sorts of devices and seeing what sticks. You might recall news about Alexa-enabled microwave ovens, as well as finger rings. Panay says he will be more selective and identify “the ones that matter most” when it comes to new devices.
Panay is pledging to re-engineer Amazon’s hardware, from the gadgets’ silicon guts to the design and materials. Whether they fall into the “entry, core, or signature” tier, he said, they’ll get the same care and attention. Although no new devices have been revealed, Panay did hint about augmented reality glasses and new wrist-worn devices. It has been heavily speculated that Amazon wants to compete with Meta and Ray-Ban by offering its own spin on the concept. It is also likely that we will see a Fire Max 11 refresh, as the old model is now a couple of years old.
