Here comes the world’s first newspaper that is produced entirely by AI, the website The Guardian reported. Il Foglio AI, as the newspaper is named, happens to be the AI version of the Italian newspaper Il Foglio. The AI newspaper comprises 4 pages and is sold alongside the regular print version. Also, Il Foglio AI is available only in digital form and can be read online. All of it forms part of an experimental venture with editor-in-chief Claudio Cerasa stating they aim to study the impact of AI on journalism with this project.

Editor-in-chief Claudio Cerasa said the AI newspaper in its first edition will be focussing on topics such as Italy’s economic reforms, the ten betrayals of Putin, contradictions among Trump’s supporters in Italy, and where traditional relationship stands in modern times. All of the content is going to be produced by AI. That includes compiling the news articles, their titles, and quotations. AI will also be responsible for any sarcastic words that might be needed.

“It will be the first daily newspaper in the world on newsstands created entirely using artificial intelligence,” said Cerasa. “For everything. For the writing, the headlines, the quotes, the summaries. And, sometimes, even for the irony.” He added that journalists’ roles would be limited to “asking questions [into an AI tool] and reading the answers”.

Not surprisingly, such a project has drawn a fair share of controversy with the usual AI vs real human debate. While the rise of AI and its impact on our daily lives can’t be denied, many have questioned whether letting AI run the entire show makes sense. This is going to be significantly different from the way BBC plans to implement AI technology, that of letting AI curate personalized news articles to offer readers the stories they’d really like to have.

Many have expressed concern that AI can be efficient enough to produce an entire newspaper. As an author – Nitin Panwar stated on X that AI might be capable of producing good articles that are well written and grammatically flawless but it lacks a key aspect, that of creative and analytical thinking only humans are capable of. Under the circumstances, it is going to be interesting to see how Il Foglio AI is going to fare against its human counterparts.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
