Barnes and Noble has their corporate headquarters in Manhattan and they have been serving that market since 1971. The bookseller is about to get some competition on their home turf from Amazon, who plans on opening a bookstore in Hudson Yards.
Hudson Yards is a massive retail, commercial and residential space that will open in late 2018 or early 2019. This location is very close to the Javits Center, where Book Expo America has been running for the last decade.
Amazon started selling books and Kindle related products when they opened up their first retail store in Seattle last year. The online giant is also planning on opening up two other locations in San Diego and Portland later this year.
