Scribd has expanded their audiobook and ebook subscription service into Mexico. There are around 60,000 Spanish titles available from all of the big publishers and subscription costs are $8.99 per month. Over the course of the past year, there has been a significant number Mexican users that have subscribed to Scribd and this motivated the company to provide localized offerings. In order to provide the best content possible, Scribd has partnered with such Spanish-language publishers as Planeta, Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, Anagrama, Sexto Piso, and El Colegio de México to add even more titles.
“Scribd has a long history of building meaningful relationships with publishers, and we’re committed to driving incremental revenue to publishing ecosystem,” Andrew Weinstein VP of content acquisition and strategy at Scribd, said in a statement. In moving into Mexico, Weinstein said, “we hope to help readers in Mexico discover new content and continue to expand their knowledge through reading.”
The expansion into the Mexican market reflects Scribd’s intentions to expand more broadly in Latin America, the company said. Scribd currently has over 1 million paying subscribers, and draws in more than 100 million unique visitors to its platform per month.
