Kobo is one of the most popular e-book retailer in Canada and is in a prime position to know the most popular titles on their platform. The Toronto based company has just given us some meaningful sales data and have posted the books that sold the most units over the course of 2016.
Unsurprisingly, box office hits such as Jojo Moyes’s Me Before You, and Paula Hawkins’s The Girl on the Train both made the top 10 bestselling titles. Robert Bryndza, published through the Kobo Writing Life self-publishing platform, takes second place on Canada’s bestsellers list for 2016, which is no surprise as self-published titles make up approximately 20% of Kobo’s unit sales across its English-language markets.

Non-Fiction that Created a Buzz
Of the top 100 bestselling non-fiction titles, more than a third were biographies and memoirs. From time-honoured class acts Carol Burnett (The Time Together) and Dick Van Dyke (My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business) to newer celebrities such as Amy Schumer (The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo) and Mindy Kaling (making the list twice with Why Not Me? and Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)) who are taking the comedy world by storm, Kobo’s top selling bios list has something for everyone. And from our very own backyard, Canadian author Wab Kinew, winner of this year’s Kobo Emerging Writing Prize – shining a spotlight on debut writers – graces the list with his debut work, The Reason You Walk.
