Mobile World Congress wrapped up a week ago and many new tablets and phones were unveiled in Barcelona, Spain. During the tail-end of the convention were the “Best App Ever” awards that have been running since the advent of iTunes in 2008. At this year’s awards, digital newsstand Zinio has been voted “Best iOS Magazine App.” In winning this award, Zinio had trounced its rivals Next Issue Media, Flipboard, AOL, and Zite.
“Thank you to The Best App Ever readers and staff,” enthused Michelle Bottomley, President of Zinio. “We strive every day to make digital magazine discovery great for our readers. Whether news, sports, fashion, travel, health, lifestyle, or other interests, our readers love that they can access our global breadth and depth within one convenient digital library. We are thrilled that over 5MM people shared their excitement about Zinio in a very vocal way.”
Zinio has big plans for 2013, with their new Z-Pass subscription service that will allow customers to pay a small monthly fee and pick a number of titles they want delivered every month. Instead of subscribing to individual issues every month, you can pick 3 new ones, or stick with your favorites. The company is also revising their online presence, gravitating towards an HTML5 friendly site.
