As per the latest e-reader news, the international e-reading service Kobo today announced the availability of their new Kobo App at the Android Market. Called eBooks, this service made specifically for Android is devised to give consumers across the world an amazing e-reading experience and is in line with Kobo’s aim of being able to provide e-books to anyone anywhere in the world for reading on any device. So what this means is that consumers will no longer be tied to a particular device while procuring reading material as anyone with an account with Kobo will be able to avail e-books for Blackberry in the same manner as it would be possible to download e-books for Nook or the Sony Reader.
“Now the fastest-growing mobile platform, Android has many new devices that are great for eReading and we’re excited to deliver Kobo to the millions of Android users around the world. We’ve adapted the features our customers love and expect from Kobo to ensure that we provide the best reading experience for Android-enabled smartphones. In the near future, Kobo will support other Android-enabled devices such as tablets, netbooks and eReaders.” This is what the CEO of Kobo, Michael Serbinis had to say of their new eBooks app.
Anyone who has read with Kobo on any device running Android would readily agree how pleasurable and convenient it can be. After the book is opened, all that is needed to turn the page on the right is a gentle tap on the right edge of the display while the opposite done on the left edge will turn the page back. A tap on the center of display will bring forth a pop-up box that will have details like the current chapter number, title, page number, and the extent, shown in percentage, to which the book has been completed. Then there is also a slider bar that appears along the bottom that will allow the reader to navigate quickly to any particular portion of the e-book.
While all of this comes included in the new eBook App, the other good thing with eBook is that it makes sure the library along with all the bookmarks of a user to be automatically coordinated with the rest of the applications, thus making the Kobo e-reader a quality experience for all users who won’t ever have to face any glitch with their reading on any device enabled by Kobo. So what this means is that you can begin to read a book on, say your iPad before jumping over to a completely different platform like the Sprint HTC EVO 4G and continue to read right from where you left out on the iPad followied by completing the rest of the reading back on your iPad. The eBooks will automatically sync your settings across all platforms without you having to worry about these.
What’s more, the Android marketplace is going to make available the eBooks App completely free of charge on Android-enabled smartphones. The ePUB standard feature is inclusive of rich text that also supports images, hence delivering an e-reading experience that definitely proves the quality of the service. People who already have registered accounts at Kobo can login to their respective accounts and begin reading through their books straight away. As an additional benefit, there are more than 2 million e-books that can be downloaded through the Kobo store which includes the most sought after bestsellers of our time, classics along with hundreds of thousands of other titles all of which can be availed of free of cost.
Kobo’s e-reading service, which includes apps for the Blackberry, the iPhone, Android, iPad, and the Kobo e-reader already has created a strong fan following worldwide. The applications come free of charge. Android users who are registered with Kobo can now just login to their accounts and download previously purchased e-books without having to pay any further costs.
However, there are some areas where users might look for further enhancements. Like there are many who would like to manually bookmarks certain pages or chapters of a book which they’d like to follow up later on. Then the ability to choose background color of font color would be an added plus.
Perhaps these would be included in a future upgrade. But for now, lets make the most of the eBooks.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
