Kobo has taken a page out of the Amazon playbook and launched its own variant of the Special Offers edition! Kobo has begun marketing its advertising supported device and is offering it for $99.99.
Kobo Touch with Offers presents you with sponsored screensavers and valuable offers when your device is powered off or in sleep mode, and in other discreet places that are always outside of the reading experience, like on the bottom of your home screen. Kobo Touch with Offers is currently available to customers in the United States in black only. Other than that, Kobo Touch with Offers offers the same reading experience as the popular Kobo Touch eReader.
The Kobo Touch is the latest generation e-ink based reader and is the best device the company has launched. It features a six inch screen with Infrared display, giving you pin-point accuracy. It taps into the Kobo ecosystem giving you access to over 2.3 million books, delivered right to your device. You can borrow books from the library and shop at other stores and use Adobe Digital Editions to transfer your purchased media to your Kobo.
I think its a great move for Kobo to offer its Touchscreen e-reader for under $100. Considering Amazon and Barnes and Noble both offer low cost devices, this is what the company needs to stay relevant during the holiday season.
