Charlaine Harris – Dead in the Family: A Sookie Stackhouse Novel – Available May 4, 2010
Synopsis of the Story
Still reeling from the deaths of her fairy cousin, Claudine, and many others in 2009’s Dead and Gone, Sookie Stackhouse struggles with paranormal politics in her entertaining if slow-moving 10th outing. When Claudine’s triplet, Claude, appears at her doorstep, Sookie reluctantly allows him to move in. The government threatens two-natures with mandatory registration, and tensions run high in the local Were pack. Then Eric’s maker, a Roman named Appius Livius Ocella, arrives without warning, bringing along Alexei Romanov, whom he rescued from the Bolsheviks and turned into a vampire. Though the action often builds too slowly, the exploration of family in its many human and undead variations is intriguing, and Harris delivers her usual mix of eccentric characters and engaging subplots.
Rick Riordan – The Red Pyramid (The Kane Chronicles, Book 1) – Available May 4, 2010
Synopsis of the Story
Since their mother’s death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane.
One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a “research experiment” at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives.
Soon, Sadie and Carter discover that the gods of Egypt are waking, and the worst of them–Set–has his sights on the Kanes. To stop him, the siblings embark on a dangerous journey across the globe–a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family, and their links to a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs.
Chuck Palahniuk – Tell-All – Available May 4 2010
Synopsis of the Story
At his best, Palahniuk punctures our collective psyches with sharp darts of satire, subversion, and surprise. Fight Club (1996) created a mythology from the inner lives of alienated Gen X-ers, and Pygmy (2009) daringly tweaked fears of terrorism and school shootings, heedless of our jangled nerves. In an era of panic about pandemics, Rant (2007) likened celebrity to a plague. Tell-All retreats to the world of golden-age Hollywood, telling the tale of Katherine Kenton, aging star of stage and screen, and Hazie Coogan, Kenton’s maid, companion, confidante—and unlikely star-maker. Written in a style meant to evoke the boldface breathlessness of celebrity scandal sheets, Tell-All chronicles Kenton’s love affair with the inappropriately young Webster Carlton Westward III, a possible gold-digger, and Coogan’s increasingly desperate attempts to manage her mistress’ life. To be sure, Palahniuk stages some stunning scenes and pens some bawdily hilarious lines. But, unfortunately, other than noting stardom’s fleeting fame, he doesn’t find much new to say. Readers with long memories will be struck by the way some of the set pieces resemble the scathing satire of a young William S. Burroughs. But Naked Lunch was published in 1959—it’s a little late to be dining out on similar fare. Then again, if Lillian Hellman strikes you as a worthy target, then this might be just the meal you’re looking for.
Scott Turow – Innocent – Available May 4 2010
Synopsis of the Story
Mesmerizing prose and intricate plotting lift Turow’s superlative legal thriller, his best novel since his bestselling debut, Presumed Innocent, to which this is a sequel. In 2008, 22 years after the events of the earlier book, former lawyer Rusty Sabich, now a Kindle County, Ill., chief appellate judge, is again suspected of murdering a woman close to him. His wife, Barbara, has died in her bed of what appear to be natural causes, yet Rusty comes under scrutiny from his old nemesis, acting prosecuting attorney Tommy Molto, who unsuccessfully prosecuted him for killing his mistress decades earlier. Tommy’s chief deputy, Jim Brand, is suspicious because Rusty chose to keep Barbara’s death a secret, even from their son, Nat, for almost an entire day, which could have allowed traces of poison to disappear. Rusty’s candidacy for a higher court in an imminent election; his recent clandestine affair with his attractive law clerk, Anna Vostic; and a breach of judicial ethics complicate matters further. Once again, Turow displays an uncanny ability for making the passions and contradictions of his main characters accessible and understandable.
Jennifer Baggett – The Lost Girls: Three Friends, Four Continents, One Unconventional Detour Around the World – Available May 11, 2010

Unable to gain perspective in fast-paced Manhattan, the three twentysomethings quit their coveted media jobs and leave behind their friends, boyfriends, and everything familiar to travel the globe. Emily Giffin – Heart of the Matter – Available May 11, 2010
Synopsis of the Story
In the popular Giffin’s latest, Nick Russo is a pediatric plastic surgeon; his wife, Tessa (sister of Dex, from Something Borrowed), is a professor turned stay-at-home mom living a cushy life in Boston. Nick is called in to care for a six-year-old burn victim, and Nick’s devotion to his work is soon tangled up in his attraction to the boy’s mother, Valerie, a single attorney. Narrated in turn by Tessa and Valerie, the action centers around—will they or won’t they, and, if they do, will Tessa forgive him? While unclear what Nick finds so unsatisfying in his marriage, adultery is always tempting and Tessa and Valerie both have their charms. Longtime fans will enjoy the cameos, but for the best of Giffin, don’t miss her earlier works.
Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child – Fever Dream – Available May 11, 2010
Synopsis of the Story
Preston and Child up the emotional ante considerably in their 10th thriller featuring brilliant and eccentric FBI agent Aloysius Pendergast (after Cemetery Dance), one of the best in the series. For 12 years, Pendergast has believed that the death of his wife, Helen, in the jaws of a ferocious red-maned lion in Zambia was just a tragedy, but his chance examination of the gun she carried on the fateful day reveals that someone loaded it with blanks. Pendergast drags his longtime NYPD ally, Lt. Vincent D’Agosta, into a leave of absence that includes travel to Africa as well as the American South. The motive for Helen’s murder appears to be linked to her fascination with John James Audubon and her quest for a mysterious lost Audubon painting. Once again, the bestselling authors show they have few peers at creating taut scenes of suspense. Their restraint in the book’s early sections make the payoffs all the more compelling.

She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she will plot revenge-against the man who tried to kill her, and the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.
