The Nook HD came out in late 2012, not last year.
The Nook HD does allow wallpapers and widgets.

Had to point that out. I do want to agree that, as an owner of a Nook HD and recently looking at a Samsung Nook, I was impressed that while the new device has lower resolution I cannot tell at all. I would say the new device is geared for those that don’t have a “reader tablet” or upgrading from a Nook Color or Nook Tablet. Nook HD owners may benefit but your mileage may vary.

There was a lot of misinformation in this review about the Nook HD, especially for US viewers. First of all, you can change the background and use live wallpapers if you want. I created a customized wallpaper from an image I downloaded to my Gallery. Because of access to the Google Play store you have access to thousands and thousands of apps. If you don’t like the dedicated Nook reading software, you can install a number of others that allow more customization of the reading experience. I have Aldiko, Moon+, Cool Reader and Mantano Essentials ereader software all installed on my Nook HD. Not to mention the Kindle and Kobo apps.

If you are going to compare the look of the pages of the book, then use the same book on each reader and the same font. Using different text and fonts on each book does not allow for a fair comparison of the display. Also, you provided no technical information. What is the stated screen resolution of each? What CPU does each one have? What is the storage capacity, and to what point is it expandable?

what about films? how do they look? I have a Nook HD + but now that B&N stopped production on them, I am looking to get another so I don’t wear mine out. Really sad about this whole thing. I’ve even been snooping at the Kindle HDX, but the fact that there’s no Google Play store available, I may just go with the Nook/Samsung.
