We reported yesterday that Sony, announced a deal in Japan where it was partnering with local companies to open up a new E-Book store and to possibly release a new E-Reader for that market. That is not all of the latest Sony News. A Recent Patent Application has surfaced that Sony is very close in having a full production model for a new Dual Screen Electronic Reader.
According to the recently surfaced Patent Application the new Sony Device will feature dual screens that can be used in multiple orientations, such as Reading a Book. Also it will feature an on-screen keyboard on the lower display when in notebook orientation. Flipping before the two modes is similar to the iPad, with it’s built in Accelerometer. The patent also shows that Sony is entrenching into LG’S territory with wanting to feature solar powered batteries to recharge it on the go.
Although the Dual Screen E-Reader has been a modest success thus far for the Entourage Edge, which is aimed at Students, a Sony E-Reader could have a more broad appeal to the consumer segment. Microsoft was also developing a dual screen E-Reader, but has since scrapped it, resulting in a departure from J Allard, a stalwart defender of the project.
