iPad Mini and Nook HD Video Comparison

November 24, 2012 By Michael Kozlowski 8 Comments

Welcome to another Good e-Reader Comparison Video! Today we take a look at the new Barnes and Noble Nook HD and the Apple iPad Mini. We are primarily evaluating the reading experience, and will show you newspapers, magazines, PDF, and ebooks. You will get a sense of all the options that are available on both devices and how you can augment the text experience. Finally, we will show you the content distribution systems and test video.

The Nook HD was primarily designed to be a multimedia based e-reader. One of the main benefits of purchasing a tablet is that you can install apps, load games, watch movies, and listen to music. B&N has invested heavily into developing a video and television service to buy and rent movies. B&N has also revised its entire UI and store experience. If you ever had the Nook Color or Nook Tablet, you are in for quite a treat.

The Apple iPad Mini was the company’s first 7.9 inch device, and is a severe departure from the larger iPad line of tablets. The big draw with this new unit is the portability factor and expansive iOS ecosystem.

We pit both of these tablets head to head to give you an indication on how they perform under real world conditions. You will get a sense by the end of the video of what makes them both unique and the different features they offer.

The Nook has “a little bit better resolution”? If by a little you mean ALOT, then yes it does. The Ipad Mini has the 2 year old Nook Color’s resolution. It’s 163px per inch vs the Nook’s 242px per inch.

  • Huh?

Did I miss the part where you covered PDFs, like you said you would?

Very helpful! Based on this, I am strongly leaning toward the Nook HD for my primary intended uses of reading books and magazines.
