Amazon has just released their Q4 2024 earnings report for the last three months of 2024. What is very interesting is that they mentioned Kindle e-reader sales. They said they had the the biggest Q4 for Kindle device sales in over a decade, with a new lineup of Kindles driving a 30% year-over-year increase in devices sold.
The Kindle e-readers were released around October last year, and the company refreshed its entire lineup. The Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, Kindle Scribe, and its first color e-reader, the Kindle Colorsoft, were all released, and reviews were generally positive. The Kindle remains the most popular e-reader worldwide.
Aside from people pre-ordering and paying full price for the e-readers when they first came out, one of the contributing factors to the success record was how close it was to the holiday season.
When Black Friday and Cyber Monday rolled around, the Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and the previous gen Scribe were all on sale. This resulted in the boon of hardware sales . In the last week of Christmas, the e-readers were on sale again.
Net sales increased 10% to $187.8 billion in the fourth quarter, compared with $170.0 billion in fourth quarter 2023. North America segment sales increased 10% year-over-year to $115.6 billion. International segment sales increased 8% year-over-year to $43.4 billion, or increased 9%. They ranked No. 3 on Fortune magazine’s World’s Most Admired Companies list.
