There is now good news for people who buy Kobo E-readers at Chapters/Indigo locations across North America. It now comes bundled with the new firmware 1.4
I was recently at a local Chapters Bookstore to bring in my Kobo E-Reader to have the latest Factory Firmware loaded onto it. They told me, that some of the earlier editions of the Kobo E-Reader had a glitch that would not allow the firmware to be updated.
They gave me a brand new Kobo E-Reader and told me that anyone that comes into any Chapters location to have their Kobo Firmware updated, that you will receive a free $10.00 Giftcard to be used in-store or online to buy ebooks. When i looked at their list of all of the people that had their firmware updated in-store, there was only 4 names on it.
When you purchase a new Kobo E-Reader, they now have small purple round stickers on the bottom of the box, this is an indication that they have the latest firmware updates loaded onto the device.
Not only do you get a free $10.00 gift-card when you update your Kobo E-Reader firmware in the store, but they also give you a handy 4 page document, that outlines all of the benefits of the upgrade and instructions. Some enhancements include; font size issues with EPUBS fixed, the battery gains abilities to last longer! The battery light now accurately indicates if it is low on power, if it is charging and so on. It also allows you to easily remove the 100 free ebooks that come with all Kobo E-Readers.
We do not recommend updating the unit yourself, the entire process is very tedious, and there are issues as we said on older Kobo E-Readers not taking the firmware update.
