Calibre is one of the most popular e-book conversation software in the world. You can easily convert e-books from one format to another and send them directly to your e-reader. The company has just announced with the new 8.0 software that they can natively edit, view, and convert KEPUB format files used by Kobo. It also automatically converts EPUB to KEPUB when sending books to Kobo devices.

It is nice to convert e-books to the official format for Kobo e-readers. This is a huge deal and introduces many quality-of-life features you would not find in a typical EPUB. At its core, KPUB maintains the same type of experience as a book purchased from the Kobo bookstore. This includes proper pagination, fonts, and reading time.

KEPUB also lets you use fast flip, holding down the button or screen on a Kobo to rapidly turn pages inside a book. If you click on a footnote, a proper popup will appear, and you can zoom in on embedded images in the book with Kobo’s built-in image viewer.

One of the other changes in the new Calibre software concerns the German e-reading company Tolino. Kobo makes the software and hardware for Tolino e-readers, including the latest generation, which came out late last year. Calibre added support for new firmware on Tolino devices.
