Manga has come to captivate readers in the US like never before. Its unique and engaging storytelling style has made it a popular reading choice in the country. Now, guess which publisher has come out on top in this segment? The answer lies in the new presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con event. As ComicBook reported, it is Viz Media that has emerged at the top and has more than half of the market to itself. To be specific, it held a 57 percent market share in 2023. While impressive, it is still a bit lower than its 60 percent market share in 2022.
Kodansha and Yen Press are in a distant second spot with 13 percent of the market, while Seven Seas is in the fourth with 9 percent. Dark Horse and Square Enix come in next with 4 percent and 2 percent market share, respectively. After that, Tokyopop had 1 percent of the market, while all the other publishers had a combined market share of 1 percent.
USD 381.16 million worth of manga sales were recorded in 2023, which is 13.15 percent lower than in 2022. Demand for manga reached an all-time high during the pandemic. To put things in perspective, the segment witnessed a 145.19 percent growth during 2020 and 2021.
When it comes to the best-selling manga of 2023, Demon Slayer came out on top. Next, Chainsaw Man was the second most popular manga, followed by Spy x Family, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Dark Horse Comics’ Berserk.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
