Onyx Boox has increased the prices for all of their e-readers and e-notebooks. The prices have gone up $10 for their most affordable devices, such as the Palma 2, but their most expensive devices went up to $50.00. The new prices live on Amazon, where Boox sells them directly, and their own Onyx Boox retail store.
Onyx Boox has not published anything about the price increases on their official blog or their news section on Medium. The company did not comment to Good e-Reader about the entire situation. Boox is undoubtedly not the first company to jack up their prices lately. Last month, Kobo increased the prices of all of its e-readers by $10.00. Pocketbook raised prices $20 to $50 a couple of weeks ago for most of their e-readers.
The main reason why prices are going up is primarily due to the additional 10% additional tariff on imports from China. Most of the world’s e-readers are manufactured in China and shipped to the US, where they are housed in warehouses, Amazon fulfillment centers, or redirected to Canada. Donald Trump is also considering tariffs on Taiwan semiconductors, which could raise the prices of e-readers even more.
