Onyx Boox is seemingly getting out of supporting WACOM with their new Go series of tablets, the Go 7 BW and Go 7 Color Gen 2, which were announced today. They are using a new stylus similar to the Apple Pencil, designed to write on a glass screen. Like the Apple Pencil, its internal battery needs to be periodically recharged.
BOOX InkSense is designed for effortless writing and precise idea capture. It features smooth, accurate lines and boasts Type-C charging and a 65mAh Li-polymer battery for long-lasting power. Its lightweight, ergonomic design ensures comfortable note-taking and annotation anytime. The side button can be mapped to do different things, such as an eraser or highlighter. They are using POM tips for the writing experience, which has 4,096 Pressure Levels of Sensitivity, so the harder you press, the thicker the lines will become.
Boox has not disclosed if they are using EMR tech, but I know it is not Wacom-supported. They likely did not want to pay the licensing fee to WACOM for the Go series, which has a writing app, but the products seem more suited to reading e-books. The drawing experience and products are similar to the Kobo Libra 2, which is primarily for book readers, but for those who want to write, it can be. Kobo is also using an EMR stylus.
The stylus is not available yet, but it should be released in the first week or two of May. When it is available, it will retail for $49.99. You can visit the dedicated product page to learn more.
