A week ago, Onyx Boox announced a bevy of new hardware. The Mira Pro is a 25-inch color E INK monitor, used for productivity tasks, and is a replacement for your desktop monitor at home. The Go 7 and Go 7 Color are dedicated book readers with some light stylus support; their primary duty is to read e-books and other digital content. If a dedicated note-taking the Tab Ultra XC is a new 13.3-inch e-notebook with a 300 PPI BW resolution and a Kaleido 3 display. Will you buy any of these e-readers or e-notes?

For the past year, Onyx has primarily focused on the domestic Chinese market, with double the number of products released there and then intentionally pushed out. The Tariffs from the United States have prompted Onyx to increase prices for old and newer devices from 10% to 25%. Even if you don’t live in the USA, because it’s such a big market for Onyx, the price increases affect users in Canada, the UK, Germany, and other countries.

Onyx Boox Tab Ultra XC

The Tab Ultra XC features a 13.3-inch Kaleido 3 color e-paper display. It has a black and white resolution of 3200 x 2400 with 300 PPI, which is excellent for a large screen. I don’t think we have ever had this size reach 300 PPI for the resolution, so it should make PDF files and book fonts look razor sharp. The resolution for the color screen is 1600 x 1200 with 150 PPI. This is one of the few 13.3-inch e-notebooks on the market with a front-lit display and a color temperature system. A series of white and amber LED lights allows you to mix them to get a screen brightness that suits the environment, whether day or night.

Underneath the hood is a 2.8 GHz Octa-core processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. There is no SD card to enhance the storage further. It has dual stereo speakers for audiobooks, music, or podcasts. Bluetooth 5.0 is available for those who prefer wireless earbuds, headphones, or an external keyboard. WIFI is available and has a USB-C port for transferring data and charging. A respectable 5,500mAh Li-ion Polymer battery powers it. The dimensions are 287.5 x 243 x 5.3 mm (11.3″ x 9.6″ x 0.21″), and it weighs 625 g (22 oz). Tab Ultra XC 2025 edition runs Google Android 13 and has full access to Play Services and the Google Play Store. This is likely where most users will download their apps and keep them updated.

This device is expensive and retails for $$819.99 from the Boox Shop.

Onyx Boox Go Color Gen 2

The Go 7 Color Gen 2 has a full-color reading experience and physical page-turn buttons to scan e-books. It has Google Android 13 and full access to the Play Store. This is an international release, so it will be available in all markets. Pricing and release date are pending, so there is no word on how much it will cost.

The Go 7 Color Gen 2 features a 7-inch E INK Kaleido 3 color e-paper display. The black and white resolution is 1680 x 1264 with 300 PPI, while the color resolution is 150. The device’s body is white, and the screen is flush with the bezel and protected by a layer of glass. It has white and amber LED lights that read in the dark. The front-lit display and color temperature system can be mixed to provide a tremendous reading experience. A G-sensor will automatically switch the orientation from portrait to landscape mode.

Underneath the hood is an Octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. If this is not enough space to house your audiobooks, e-books, comics, or PDF files, an SD card is capable of an additional 1 TB. There is a single speaker, so if you want to listen to music or audiobooks, you will want to take advantage of wireless earbuds or headphones thanks to the Bluetooth 5.1 support. Surf the web or download apps via WIFI. A USB-C port is available to transfer content to the Go 7 Color Gen 2, and it’s also used to charge the device. It is powered by a 2,300 mAh battery.

Onyx Boox Go 7

Onyx Boox Mira Pro Color

The new color Monitor is similar to the Mira Pro except for the color makeover for the display. This makes the monitor ideal for those whose job demands a color display. For instance, the new Mira Pro Color will best allow you to review color-coded dashboards, analyze data, or work with complex graphics. The monitor can also be used for media consumption or content creation with built-in speakers.

The Mira Pro Color features a 25.3” E Ink Kaleido 3 glass screen with a BW resolution of  3200×1800 with 145 PPI. The company did not disclose the resolution or PPI of the color e-paper display, so it must be shallow. However, it can display 4096 colors. It has a front-light and color temperature system so that this monitor can be used during the day or night. It has dual speakers and supports HDMI, Mini HDMI,  USB Type-C, and DisplayPort.  It also utilizes Boox Super Refresh technology.  The Boox Mira Pro is unavailable, and there is no word on price, but it should easily cost over $1500.
