YouTube has unveiled a new subscription system that disables all advertising for $9.99 per month. This will appeal to people who spend a copious amount of time watching videos or listening to musical playlists.
If you are the type that tends to listen to a lot of music on YouTube, there is going to be a new YouTube Music app for Android that will be available soon. It will tie into your Red subscription so you can listen to music both online and offline. There is also a mode that you can disable video and just listen to the audio, which is good for people who don’t have large data-plans. Finally, there is a background mode for Youtube Red, that will allow you to listen to music while driving on running.
Google also plans to begin offering original content that’s available exclusively to YouTube Red members, at least initially. Rival online video services Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu have also been investing heavily in original content, but for the most part those companies are working with traditional filmmakers and TV producers, while YouTube Red’s original content will come from new media stars, with movies and web shows from popular YouTube channels including PewDiePie, The Fine Brothers, CollegeHumor, and more.
