At CEATEC in Japan this year, Hitachi showed off a new 6.6 inch display that is capable of a resolution of 1600×1200 and 302 ppi, which would be perfect for a new breed of Tablet PC’s.
The new display is seeing lots of comparisons to the new iPhone Retina display, which weights in at a slighly higher 326 ppi. Although this ratio is minimal the big factor is that the iPAd screen only has a resolution of 1024X768 vs the 1600×1200 of the Hitachi model.
Finally, the new Hitachi screen features a contrast ratio of 800×1 and will provide a great aspect ratio of 4:3.
There is no word yet on any companies signing on to buy this technology, as it just made its debut today. We would hope that for some of the new tablets coming out in 2011, we will see higher resolution devices without sacrificing battery life.
