Is the BlackBerry phone slated to make a return to the mainstream market? Nothing is confirmed at the moment, though there seems to be a distinct possibility of that happening. All of this stems from a Reddit post by one identified as u/coldheartedsigma that said a UK-based startup is planning to revive the BlackBerry-styled keyboard phones of yore.

There is no way to ascertain the authenticity of the above, though the user does have some bits to share about the upcoming phone. Citing compliance with an NDA, the user revealed that the said phone will be 5G ready and come with an AMOLED display, 12 GB of memory, and 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. The phone will be running the latest Android 15 version and have a capacitive QWERTY keyboard. Besides, the phone will also have generative AI support.

The phone, which is supposed to be a modern and up-to-date version of the BlackBerry Classic, will have a premium build with matching flagship-level specs. A custom Android ROM is also being touted for enhanced security, something that BlackBerry has always been known for. The user stated that the startup is working with Malikie Innovations for exclusive rights to BlackBerry patents. Malikie Innovations is currently the owner of BlackBerry patents.

Now, to the most important part of it all, is it all real or part of a grand scam? Nothing can be said of that at the moment though the original Reddit post that the entire story is based on has since been deleted. Whether that points to it being a scam or the user not wanting too much publicity before there is substantial progress on the ground is not known.

Much of it will depend on funding and the Reddit user is claiming the startup has received £15m – £20m offers for 5 percent equity. Some investors are said to be opting for 100 percent equity rights. There are no timelines provided as well, so that’s another aspect that keeps us guessing. It remains to be seen if all of it is vaporware or if there is matter in it. Stay tuned.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
