Neal Stephensons 1992 seminal novel Snow Crash helped usher in the cyberpunk movement. HBO MAX is going to be turning it into a television series. HBO has proven its capability for lending astounding production value to genre shows. Just look at Westworld, which is easily the closest any live-action TV series has come to perfecting a cyberpunk aesthetic for the small screen — even more so than Altered Carbon.
In a summary provided by Goodreads, the novel revolves around “Hiro Protagonist, who in reality delivers pizza for Uncle Enzo’s CosoNostra Pizza Inc., but in the Metaverse he’s a warrior prince. Plunging headlong into the enigma of a new computer virus that’s striking down hackers everywhere, he races along the neon-lit streets on a search-and-destroy mission for the shadowy virtual villain threatening to bring about infocalypse.” Snow Crash was nominated for both the British Science Fiction Award in 1993, and the Arthur C. Clarke Award in 1994.
There is no firm date when the series will be completed, it has a few showrunners, but no actors have been cast yet, so it might be a few years. If you want to read the book, you can order it from the Good e-Reader Bookstore.
