Here is a small tag with an integrated E Ink display which you can use to keep a tab on your belongings. While there might not be any dearth of trackers – there are the likes of Apple AirTag, Samsung SmartTag, Tile, or those from Chipolo – here is one that is different from the rest in that it comes with a built-in e-paper display. You can use the same to show some nifty images or your name and other contact details. That way, the PhotoTag can serve as an address label as well.
What makes the PhotoTag all the more exciting is that the E Ink display supports four colors. You can have your own image displayed in color for easy identification just in case your baggage gets lost. The options here are limitless as you can use the display to show just about anything, be it some images or text, or both. That includes a QR code as well, in case you don’t wish to display your contact details in public.
PhotoTag is compatible with both Apple Find My and Google Find networks. What that means is the tracker will be able to draw GPS info from iPhone or Android smartphones in the vicinity. This info is then uploaded to the cloud and can be used to locate your baggage. You will receive a notification on your smartphone to this effect.
Among the other features of the PhotoTag include the ability to ring an alarm using your phone if you are unable to locate a tagged item in your home. Similarly, there is going to be an alarm sounded on your smartphone if you forget to pick up a tagged baggage. Apart from these, the PhotoTag will also let you keep track of your little furry friends if you have attached a tracker to their collar as well.
The PhotoTag otherwise is crafted out of an aluminum alloy with ABS for the back cover. It measures just 44.5 x 34.5 x 8 mm in dimensions and weighs only 15 grams. The tracker also boasts an IP65 rating, meaning they are safe from the occasional water splashes or dust. Keeping the tracker alive is a 2032 cell battery which can sustain operations for 10 months at one go.
The trackers are now available on Kickstarter, where they have garnered the support of 2329 people who have pledged a total of $224,085 USD as of this writing. That far exceeds the funding goal of $5,000, with 19 days still to go. Each of the trackers is priced at $29, with the retail price likely to be twice that amount. Shipment is expected to start in April.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
