TCL announced its TCL 50 XL NXTPAPER 5G smartphone is now available to buyers in the US, the website Phablet.jp reported. The smartphone was first introduced during CES early this year and comes with an interesting set of features even though the specs at large are mid-range at best. It comes with a 6.78-inch FHD+ display that has a resolution of 2460 x 1080 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. However, the one thing that sets the TCL 50 XL NXTPAPER 5G apart is its display which is based on the NXTPAPER technology.
That makes it very safe for the eyes given its glare-free attribute while also emitting the least of blue light. The obvious benefit here compared to standard e-paper displays is that you have a high refresh rate along with a full-color display, both of which are a compromise on e-paper displays. You have all the benefits of a traditional smartphone while having a paper-like display that is soothing for your eyes.
As for its specs, the TCL 50 XL NXTPAPER 5G comes with a 2.2 GHz octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 6100 CPU and Mali-G57 GPU. There is 6 GB of RAM onboard along with 128 GB of ROM, it being further expandable to up to 2 TB via microSD cards. Power comes from a 5010 mAh battery supported by 18W fast charging tech. It features a 50 MP + 5 MP + 2 MP triple camera setup at the rear along with a 32 MP front cam.
The phone supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity. There also is a USB-C port as well as a headphone jack. For user authentication, there is the side-mounted fingerprint sensor as well as face unlock feature. The phone runs Android 14 right out of the box. It measures 167.6 x 75.5 x 8.22mm in dimensions and weighs 198.7g. The phone is available in ‘Space Blue’ color option and is priced at $199.99 in the US.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. The motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot, and I'll likely make a film sometime in the future.
